What´s your recommendation for preparing for the PMP exam?

July 5th, 2010 · 1 Comment

I´m about to buy the latest PMBOK edition, and also buy a exam preparation guide (book) and get started on my journey, but I´m still unsure when is the best time to attend a 3-day PMP exam preparation course or a e-learning course @ rmcproject, for example, as those courses are not cheap.

What do you suggest? What should I already know prior to attending a PMP exam preparation course?

Regards
You are right Raja, some courses also contribute on getting some PDUs , which is a requisite to become a PMP.

In my case, my main objective is to increase my chances of approving the exam and better understand the dif areas of the pmbok. The contact hours are a plus.

    Dear Cat,

I am glad to note that you have decided to pursue the PMP Certification exam.

As far as an exam prep course is concerned, you should be sure of the reason for attending it. Do you want to attend it so that you may gather required 35 contact hours, or do you want to attend it in order to cement your understanding of the syllabus gained through self-study?

If you are looking at the course only for the purpose of gathering required number of contact hours, I would advise you to consider purchasing and studying from PM PrepCast being marketed by Cornelius Fichtner. It is a 35 hour video workshop (based on new edition of PMBOK Guide). Further, you are eligible to gain 35 contact hours by studying this course.

However, if you want to attend the course in order to increase your knowledge and better prepare yourself for the exam, I would advise you to go through at least one reference book (Rita’s is recommended) and PMBOK Guide once, before enrolling for the course.

Please visit my blog for more information on the exam.

    Best Regards,
    Raja
