Best Practice in Programme, Project and Risk Management

January 9th, 2009 · No Comments

Welcome to a section of the site devoted entirely to programme, project and risk management. It’s an area that will go on growing, but you’ll find specialist articles or papers on the subject, as well as a fantastic glossary, information on best practice guidance, useful links and helpful diary dates… And there’s much more on the Main Menu too – like pm4success’s mindmapping facility, access to OGC’s Resource Toolkit (with our own guide to what’s inside), Ask an Expert (with OVER 400 questions and expert answers) and PPM book reviews.

Articles and Papers
There are now over 60 important articles and papers available here (including personal PRINCE2 case studies). We’ve created short summaries of many of them so that you can quickly check which ones you’d like to read or download as a pdf. We’re still on the look-out for articles and papers to provide new perspectives on PPM or give practical assistance on the subject. So let us know of others you think merit inclusion or if you’d like to write an article (Contact Us).

Best Practice User Group™
The Best Practice User Group™ (BPUG™) is the leading support organization for users of the OGC Best Practice products in programme, project and risk management: PRINCE2™, Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) and Management of Risk (M_o_R®). They organize workshops and conferences and represent users on technical and examination boards.

Best Practice Guidance
You’ve already taken one or more of the PRINCE2,  MSP or M_o_R examinations, and so you’ll know that they are recognized best practice. But if you want to find out more about any of OGC’s portfolio of Best Practic Guides, and plans for the
NEW OGC Best Practice guidance on Portfolio, Programme and Project Offices, read more here…

Glossary of Terms
One of the problems that constantly plagues the field of management is the way words are used (new buzzwords and jargon) and the different meaning people attach to well established phrases. Internationally recognized speaker and project management expert, Max Wideman, has spent recent years developing a glossary of PP&RM terms – now you can access it here and use it as a constant source of reference for you and your colleagues.

Accredited Consulting Organizations
In order to enable organizations to identify consultants with specialist skills and knowledge, the APM Group accredits consulting organizations and individual consultants. There are currently four types of Registered Consultant: Programme and Project Management Registered Consultants, PRINCE2 Registered Consultants, MSP Registered Consultants and M_o_R Registered Consultants. Find out more about Accredited Consulting Organizations.

Vocational Degree in PPM
Find out about the Level 5 Diploma (degree equivalent) in Programme and Project Management launched by the UK’s Chartered Management Institute and the APM Group in 2003.

PP& RM Useful links
And there are an interesting selection of useful links on the subject of PP&RM for you too.

PP&RM Diary Dates
Some PP&RM Conferences and Events that you may want to put in your diary or find out more about.
